As a global methodist congregation, Taylorville Methodist Church exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ and spread scriptural holiness across the globe.
Taylorville Methodist Church is committed to the historic, orthodox Christian faith which we embody through orthodox Wesleyan/Methodist teachings and practices as an evangelical church community. You can find our core beliefs below.
WE BELIEVE…
In the One and Only, Triune God, who exists eternally as One in Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
In Jesus Christ, the Son, who is God, who came as a human, to live and minister among the people, died on the cross for the sin of the world, rose again in the body in glory, and ascended to the throne of Heaven in power. He will come again to reclaim His creation and His Church.
In the Holy Spirit, who is God, His breath who breathed life into the first of humanity, marking us uniquely in God’s image. We believe the Holy Spirit is active in the Church and the world today, gifting God’s people, and calling people back to God.
In the final authority of the Holy Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments. The whole of Scripture gives us the narrative of God’s story and His love for the world, and in it we have all that is necessary to come to salvation as we read it with the Holy Spirit.
In the very real effects of sin and evil as a result of the Fall, and that all humanity has a sinful nature. We can be released from the power of sin over our lives when we accept the forgiveness Jesus offers us (justification through faith).
In sanctification, that we are able to resist sin in this life as we live our lives under the authority of Jesus our Savior and Lord. We grow in the fruit of the Holy Spirit and mature as Christians.
In the Holy Church, who is the bride of Christ the groom. While the Church is messy and imperfect here on earth, the Church all around the world exists to be and make disciples of Jesus Christ, and will be reunited with Jesus at the last day when He returns.
In the Return of Christ, when Jesus will come in full authority and power to completely reclaim His Creation, and put an end to all evil and sin. All of creation will be redeemed and made completely new, the Church - past, present, and future - will be raised again and be reunified, He will be the Judge of all people, and His Kingdom will have no end.
In the sacrament of Baptism as an outward sign of the grace that is already active in a person’s life. Baptism does not save, but is a requirement that Jesus gives His disciples as a mark that we are His and His alone. As Methodists, we accept and encourage both adult and infant baptism, and that you cannot be re-baptized.
In the sacrament of Holy Communion as an outward sign of the ever present love of Jesus, who invites anyone to His Table who loves Him and who repents of their sin. We believe that Communion is not just a symbol, but a mysterious and very real presence of Christ. We do not believe in transubstantiation (where the bread and juice/wine literally become Jesus), but that the elements stay as bread and juice. As Methodists, one does not have to be a member of our church or denomination to receive Holy Communion.
